Trip Out

by Geoffrey Hamer

This guide lists all kinds of ferry services and pleasure cruises available around the coasts and on the inland waterways of the British Isles. Over nine hundred vessels are listed, including car ferries, fast catamarans, local pleasure boats, historic steam ships and horse-drawn canal boats. The vessels are as varied as the trips they offer. They will take the traveller across the sea to the continent of Europe or to 80 islands from the Isles of Scilly to Shetland. They sail along our immensely varied coastline, and along rivers, canals and lakes, offering trips of a few minutes or a few hours. There are trips to see wildlife, including puffins, seals and dolphins, while boats can be chartered for all kinds of social and business functions. The ‘Trip Out’ guide has been published since the 1970s and is the only comprehensive guide to these services. As in previous editions, all passenger vessels known to be in service are included, with the exception of hovercraft, boats used solely for angling trips, boats running on small lakes in parks, and vessels not carrying over 12 passengers, which are omitted. 98 pages
